Volunteer Judge FAQ

FAQ 1 - Who can be a volunteer judge?

Any adult can be a judge! Parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles, family friends, and neighbors - if you’re willing to help, we would love to have you! Families of our speech and debate students must rally together to fill our volunteer judge slots!

FAQ 2 - Do I need experience with Speech or Debate?

Not at all. We have brand new judges every year. If you can listen, take notes, and make a thoughtful decision, you’re qualified.

FAQ 3 - Is it hard?

Nope! We will make it as easy and stress-free as possible. You’ll have access to a quick and easy online training. If you don’t have time for the online training then we will give you quick training on the spot along with a cheat sheet and any help needed.

FAQ 4 - What does a judge do? What do I need to bring?

You’ll watch students perform, give written feedback, and rank or score them. Your feedback helps them grow and your time makes the event possible! You will need an electronic device in order to judge. We can provide a chrome book if needed.

FAQ 5 - Do I have to judge every tournament?

NO! You can sign up for just one day or even just a few rounds. Any time you can give helps us tremendously.
